Who is Sandy Brinsdon?
Kia ora and welcome to TheAfterWorkPhotographer, or as I’m also known, Sandy Brinsdon—a self-confessed photography nut.
My passion is New Zealand photography, specifically capturing the stunning landscapes and wildlife of this amazing country. Based in the beautiful city of Christchurch, you’ll often find me exploring the Canterbury region and beyond in our campervan with my diving-mad husband. Living in such a breathtaking country makes it easy to find incredible spots to spend time with a camera.
My Journey
What gear do you use?
Most of my gear is Sony. I have two camera bodies—one crop (a6600) and one full-frame (A7RV). My lenses range from 100-400mm and 70-200mm through to 16-35mm for Sony. My walk-around lens is a Tamron 28-75mm.
I use Kase filters for polarizers and neutral density, and Peak Design for straps. My tripod is a Benro, and my bag is a Lowepro. I’ve been through my gear-gathering phase and am now making what I have work for me.
My love for photography began as a child, borrowing the nearest camera. My family always laughed at me for buying a new and better point-and-shoot camera on every trip overseas. However, it wasn’t until 2015 that I picked up a ‘serious’ camera and truly started learning how to capture the shots I wanted.
Combining my love of landscape and wildlife photography with blogging is not a new interest. I’ve kept travel journals for many years and now get to create them here, both for my own memories and to inspire others.
To this day, picking up a camera brings me immense joy, and my passion now is to ensure others get to experience this same feeling—either through my photography or by learning themselves.
